A pioneering figure of the Civil Rights Movement and the Folk music scene of the sixties, Odetta was a singular figure. With her booming voice and training she could transition from folk, blues, jazz, opera, etc. She inspired such a diverse list of people ranging from Martin Luther King Jr, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, John Waters and our very own Val, who upon seeing her perform found her favored genre and scene in folk music.
