Professor Longhair – Rock n Roll Gumbo (LP-New)

$22.99

Recorded with Fess’s house band in 1974, this finds the good Professor at that top of his game. Recorded by a French producer for a French label, this album was not formally issued in the US until this 1985 release, Joining him on the session is the great blues guitarist, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown.

Henry Roeland Byrd, aka Professor Longhair, was the first and finest of all the New Orleans piano players, influencing all who came in his wake; Fats Domino, Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, James Booker, Huey “Piano” Smith, among others. It is long rumored that even Art Tatum was enthralled with his style and technique.
